Glen Alpine sits proudly in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, 50 miles east of Asheville, 35 miles west of Hickory. A short 6 miles to the east finds you in the historic town of Morganton, the Burke County seat. Should you visit Morganton from Glen Alpine drive slowly into town so as not to miss the rows of beautiful historic southern homes. Directions: From I-40 eastbound exit 100 -- Jamestown Road/Glen Alpine. Turn right at the light at the end of the exit. -- OR -- From I-40 westbound exit 100 -- Jamestown Road/Glen Alpine. Turn left at the light at the end of the exit -- THEN -- Travel 7/10th of a mile and turn right following the signs for the Elementary schools and Glen Alpine. Travel 2 miles to the stop sign (Highway 70 -- "Main Street"). Continue straight through the stop sign and cross over the railroad tracks. You will pass the post office and the fire/police station immediately on your right. Davis street is the first right -- 25 feet past the fire station -- turn right.
